Coconut Records - Saint Jerome (from Davy)

Coconut Records est le projet solo de Jason Schwartzman.

Au départ, il était le batteur de Phantom Planet, connus essentiellement pour avoir fait la BO de la série The O.C.

Mais là où Jason s'est fait le plus remarqué, c'est dans sa carrière au cinéma. Il faut dire que le bonhomme était plutôt bien avantagé sur le plan familial. Neveu de Francis Ford Coppola, cousin de Nicolas Cage et Sofia Coppola, c'est toujours un plus.

Pour citer les plus connus, on dira qu'il a joué Louis XVI dans Marie-Antoinette (de sa cousine), Max Fischer dans Rushmore de Wes Anderson et Owen Wilson (aux cotés de Bill Murray) et surtout Jack Whitman dans le récent Darjeeling Limited du même Wes Anderson (rappelez-vous le frérot moustachu).

On oubliera pas non plus qu'il tient le role principal de l'excellente série Bored to Death aux cotés du fameux Zach Galifianakis.

Mais ce qui nous intéresse aujourd'hui, c'est avant tout son Coconut Records. Bon batteur, bon acteur, il nous montre ici que c'est aussi un excellent auteur/compositeur/interprète. Si la structure des chansons est assez classique, le talent est indéniable. Saint Jerome est de ces chansons qui rythme votre journée à elle seule, très prenante, le genre de chanson qu'on peut écouter une quinzaine de fois de suite sans vraiment s'en rendre compte. La recette? Un rythme enjoué, des couplets fort sympathiques, mais surtout, un refrain diablement efficace porté par un message somme toute assez universel : "Saint Jerome, I don't ever ever want to be alone".

Connaissez-vous... Angus & Julia Stone?

La formule est parfaite.

Deux Australiens.

Angus, le frère, la mâchoire carrée, la belle gueule, la guitare et la bonne chemise.

Julia, la soeur, le sourire contenu, la grâce, le piano et la fine robe fleurie.

Deux voix uniques, douces et très atypiques, aussi bien la masculine que la féminine (rare dans un duo d'avoir, réunies, deux voix aussi singulières).

Deux albums, 26 chansons, toutes aussi bien les unes que les autres.

Mais puisqu'il faut faire un choix, voici mes trois préférées.

Une chanson autobiographique comme il en existe au final très peu dans le monde de la musique. Stanley Brinks, la moitié d'Herman Dune, écrit sans artifice sur sa vie. Il prend le parti de la sobriété et écrit aussi bien sur ses parents que sur ses tournées, sans jamais chercher à se vanter, parlant d'une simple band quand il veut dire Herman Dune, parlant d'un simple changement de nom quand il quitte le groupe. Les petits morceaux de son existence sont autant mis en avant que les grands événements. Aucune expérience n'est plus importante que l'autre, le parcours est modeste, et le propos en gagne grandement en sincérité et en émotion.

Les lyrics étant introuvables sur le net, le Comité a été obligé de les déchiffrer lui-même, et remercie Antoine pour sa participation!
